SNOW!

Today I am:

Sliding through piles of SNOW! that covered the streets of Ottawa last night. Eventually I'll get sick of it, but right now, it's beautiful. Plus I get to test out my new winter boots. They were the only ones in the entire store that didn't make my feet go numb immediately. My feet? They are fucked.

Mailing off a care package to my favourite poet in the UK. I love sending and receiving mail. Sometimes I wish I was a bit more organized with addresses so I could mail people packages all the time. Right now it's sort of a lottery system, which isn't really that efficient. For a girl who collects greeting cards, you'd think I'd be more on top of this.

Working in retail for the first time since I was hired to sit at a desk and type. I volunteered to help my old store at their Christmas party tonight, and I'm actually really looking forward to it. I hope I get to be in charge of the champagne. I think that's what I did last year, or maybe the year before... I don't really remember. It was good champagne.

SNOW!? Oh, I'm jealous! We don't get snow in the concrete jungle.

Ya, the snow looked real purdy early, early this morning. Big pile more tomorrow from what I hear. I'm all atwitter about my first winter in Ottawa. We had sucky, slushy, wet, clammy, damp, windy winters in Halifax. Also, I'm pumped because this winter, for the first time in forever, I don't have to shovel any of the stuff!!

I nearly forgot it was your first winter in Ottawa!

The winters here are quite lovely, and occasionally harsh. I actually had a tough time with all the wind in Halifax... It made everything seem colder. Maybe you'll like this more. The fluffy snow is a selling point, as is the no shoveling thing. Lucky...

"Official champagne drinker". mmmhmmm.

Rain here. They claim it will become freezing chunks. Or maybe snow. Here, folks just complain too much that it's -2 degrees and the traffic is bad.

Oh ya, the wind in Halifax. It NEVER freakin' stops. There's no such thing as a good hair day in Halifax. My daughter has been shocked and amazed that rain and snow actually fall DOWN from above and not whipped at you horizontally. One thing, though, all that wind blowing your skin backwards all the time sure keeps you looking young. (Ba-doom-bah!) Thank you, I'm here every night this week.

Shawna: There's a blizzard outside right now. Don't you miss Ottawa?

UP: Hee hee. Eternal youth from howling wind? I guess it's not a bad tradeoff...
