But It's Teal

I'm trying to curb my wasteful habits a bit.

I thought I would start by using up the various moisturizers and hair creams I've accumulated over the years, before I buy replacements. Funny thing about a cupboard full of moisturizer though: I probably left those bottles in there because I wasn't crazy about the products in the first place. Don't like 'em, but feel bad about throwing them out. Sound familiar?

Anyway. I am now using a hair cream that is meant for straight hair. It feels a bit like smushing glue into my curls before I go to work. Also, I smell like a banana because of my new/old moisturizer. Next week I will smell like an almond. I'm wondering if this is going to be worth it in the long run. Only time will tell. For now, I will smell like a muffin.

I'm sure I've complained before about my inability to dress nicely for work. No matter what I buy, I manage to stumble into the office looking like I did in grade seven: jeans, random shirt, random sweater, crazy hair. Wearing dress pants doesn't seem to have helped things either, because I am always spilling things on myself. I have bad dress-clothes karma. Truly, my favourite pants in high school were a pair of nearly-destroyed army pants that were patched within an inch of their life with a variety of multi-coloured squares. I wore those fuckers right out.

I am telling you all this to try and unload my guilt from having bought another new sweater yesterday. It's teal. It's a cotton knit, which I love. And I damn well hope it will make me look like less of a slob. If it can make it through its first day without being covered in salad dressing, I'll be thrilled.

I am just going through the same thing with old beauty products.
I really want to buy new face moisterizer but can't bring myself to do it, until I finish the other 2 containers and the 10 trial size samples.. At least I know now that I'm not the only one. :)

Ah- the bad clothes karma. I have exactly the same issue. No matter what I wear I look like a bag lady and the dressier I try to get the worse I look. A nice business suit? Pah.. I look like I just rolled off the cargo train to Yuma. So, I pretty much live in jean-type outfits. At least that way I look like I'm deliberately dressing down.

As for the left-over beauty products, why not donate them to a local women's shelter or mission? They're desperate for stuff like that - creams, shampoo, soap, any toiletries. clothing, all those hotel samples of shampoo/soup. A lot of these women have had to leave home with just the clothes on their back and would appreciate some of these goodies.

HEY - feeling guilty about half opened stuff? Donate to woman's shelter - for example Nelson's house - they usually take most items.

Toodles!

Good suggestions XUP and Laura! A&J, we could always go this route if this whole 'smelling like a muffin' thing doesn't work out...

It's cool, it happens to everyone. My drama teacher spilled coffee all down her front today, on her white sweater. Luckily she fit into a sweater from the prop closet, and no one was the wiser.

I'm so with you on the clothes karma. Like xup, I just stick to jeans so I never look like I've *failed* to look good, I just look like I didn't even try. Twisted, eh?

It's another reason why being female can be a bit of a bum deal. David has five suits that he wears to work and he always looks professional and put-together. But if you're a lady "work clothes" are much more ambiguous and too many options make it hard for the fashion-challenged to put anything together.

I'm glad you all understand my problem. And don't even get me started on the shoes - apparently, the Gods of Office Attire decided that any shoes that are comfortable and fit an orthodic should be butt ugly.

Gods? Not all of us can get away with heels. Like me. Can't get away with that stuff at all.
